Explosion at Nepal minister's house, two dead in another blast

Making light of the emergency and aiming to spread panic in the Nepalese capital, which hosts the SAARC summit beginning on Friday, suspected Maoists exploded a powerful bomb at the residence of Health Minister Sharad Singh Bhandari, destroying parts of the house, officials said.

Bhandari, however, was not in the house at Jaleshwor, some 250 km south-west of Kathmandu, when the 'pressure cooker' bomb went off, officials said, adding that no one was injured in the blast.

Meanwhile, two boys died on the spot and five others sustained serious injuries when a bomb planted by unidentified persons exploded in Manma-Khandachakra in Kalikot district, the officials said.

The bomb, allegedly left behind by Maoist rebels, exploded near a public utility where the boys had gone to take bath, they said, adding that the five injured children were rushed to a hospital in Nepalgunj in an army helicopter.

The condition of two of the children was serious, they said.

The bomb was left near the public utility by the rebels while attempting to blow up the district headquarter few days ago, the officials said.
