Give Pakistan a chance, Bush asks Vajpayee

T V Parasuram in Washington

United State President George W Bush has asked Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to give a chance to President Pervez Musharraf to bring terrorists based in Pakistan to justice.

Talking to reporters at his ranch in Texas on Monday, he appreciated Musharraf's action against leaders of terrorist outfits accused of attacks in India, including on Parliament, and said, "The fact that the Pakistani president is after terrorists is a good sign."

Referring to his recent telephonic talk with Vajpayee, Bush said, "I explained to the Indian Prime Minister that I understand the anger. I was hoping that they were not headed for war."

"Give us all a chance to work and let President Musharraf bring terrorists to justice," he said, adding the Pakistan president had apprehended the head of Lashkar-e-Tayiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed.

Bush said, "So he (Musharraf) is cracking down hard and I appreciate his efforts. Terror is terror and the fact that the Pakistani president is after terrorists is a good sign."
