MEA to have special Afghanistan unit

The Cabinet on Tuesday approved the setting up of a special Afghanistan unit in the Ministry of External Affairs to deal with all proposals relating to the war-torn country.

"It will focus on bilateral aid, technical assistance and rebuilding Afghanistan's infrastructure," Law Minister Arun Jaitley said.

The Cabinet also approved a module of 12 officers for staffing the unit.

Jaitley said it would help India to be fully informed and involved in events concerning the post-Taliban administration in Afghanistan.
