65 feared killed in landslides in Nepal

At least 65 people were feared dead on Wednesday in a village in Nepal after heavy rains triggered landslides.

The landslides struck Bambi village in Ramechhap district early in the morning when most of the residents were asleep, sources said.

More than 40 houses were swept away and 60-70 persons were missing and feared killed, police sources said.

Rescue teams comprising police and army personnel have been sent to the area but the hilly terrain was making the operation difficult, local officials said.

Nearly 500 people have died in Nepal in the past two months due to heavy rains and landslides this monsoon.
