The Supreme Court on Monday impleaded the Centre, governments of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, the All India Babri Masjid Action Committee and the Muslim Personal Law Board on a petition seeking army deployment at the disputed site at Ayodhya and the maintenance of status quo till a decision is arrived on the title suits of the disputed land.
A three-judge bench, comprising of Chief Justice B N Kirpal, Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice Arijit Pasayat, allowed an interim application filed by petitioner Mohammad Aslam alias Bhure and issued notices to the parties concerned.
The petition was filed by Bhure through counsel M M Kashyap, a week before the bhoomipujan ceremony was to be conducted at the disputed site on March 15.
The Supreme Court had earlier told the parties involved in the arrangement of pujan, that 'no religious activity could take place at the disputed site'.
Kashyap, in his petition, has alleged that the parties were not honouring the 1994 order of the Supreme Court requiring maintenance of status quo at the disputed site and has requested that the Court deploy the army at the site till the title suits on the land was decided.
The petitioner has also requested the Court to initiate contempt proceedings against the VHP leadership, including Ashok Singhal, for violating the court order at the disputed site in Ayodhya.
Bhure had also sought seizure of the stones lying at the Karsevakpuram, at Ayodhya and Pindwara in Rajsthan, meant for use at the proposed Ram Temple.
