Five more BSF battalions deployed
on Amarnath yatra route

Mukhtar Ahmad in Srinagar

The Jammu and Kashmir administration has deployed five more battalions of the Border Security Force along the Amarnath Yatra route in the wake of Tuesday's attack on pilgrims at Lazbal near Anantnag.

Over 100,000 pilgrims have already had darshan at the cave shrine of Amarnath since the start of the yatra on July 19.

Border Security Force spokesman T Acharya said the BSF battalions would sanitise the Chandanwari cave shrine and Baltel routes.

He said the troops are "keeping a constant vigil [along the route] and carrying out offensive patrolling and raids in the vicinity of the two routes."

"We have intelligence inputs that militants may try to strike. Threat perceptions have been analysed and we are ready to foil any such attempt," Acharya added.

He said the BSF is "also extending all possible help to the yatris. Our troops can be seen lending help to elders, boosting the morale of tired yatris and helping them climb steep slopes."

The BSF has deployed mobile ambulances on the route where people suffering from high-altitude sicknesses like breathlessness, pulmonary oedema and headache can get treatment.
