BSF commandant, constable killed in Budgam

A Border Security Force (BSF) commandant and a head constable were on Friday killed in a fierce gun battle with militants at Malpora village in central Budgam district in Jammu and Kashmir.

Police said V P Purohit, commandant 171 battalion, and head constable Krishan Kumar died when security forces were laying a cordon around the village where the BSF had on Friday morning gunned down two militants.

Purohit received serious injuries and was airlifted to the base hospital in Srinagar. However, he succumbed to his injuries in the evening.

BSF spokesman T Acharya told rediff.com that troops gunned down two more militants in the subsequent gun battle.
