Telugu Desam activist shot dead by Naxalites

Syed Amin Jafri in Hyderabad

Outlawed People's War Group militants on Wednesday shot dead a Telugu Desam Party activist in east Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh.

According to the police, a six-member group of Naxalites belonging to Konalava local guerrilla squad of the PWG came to Choutilapalli village in Y Ramavaram mandal at around 6.30 am (IST) and shot dead 65-year-old Yerraiah, while he was proceeding towards a tea-stall.

The Naxalites had accused Yerraiah of oppressing and terrorising the tribals in the area. They had warned him several times periodically to mend his ways, Choutilapalli villagers said.
