Arun Jaitley to bring Scindia's body to Delhi

Tara Shankar Sahay in New Delhi

Home Minister L K Advani on Sunday said that Law Minister Arun Jaitely will fly out in an Air Force aircraft to bring the charred corpses of Congress leader Madhavrao Scindia and other victims of the fatal plane crash back to New Delhi.

Scindia's son Jyotiraditya is accompanying Jaitley to identify his father's body.

Advani further told the media that the government has informed the family members of all victims, and that one member at least of each family will accompany Jaitley in order to identify their respective family members.

The home minister said that as per information received by him, all bodies had been severely charred and were virtually unrecognisable.

The bodies will be transported to Agra by road -- a process that is expected to take four hours -- before being flown to Delhi in the Air Force craft.

Advani said the plane had landed in an area that was water-logged, and that this was creating problems for the ambulance and police personnel at the site. Seven bodies have been recovered so far, but one more body is yet to be receovered, the minister added.

Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit, who is among the dozens of senior political leaders who have rushed to Scindia's 27 Safdarjung Road residence, said, "I am shocked beyond words. I was also supposed to accompany Madhavraoji on this flight, but for various reasons I couldn't make the trip. I don't know what to say."
