Govt ready to clear misgivings on
POTO: PM

Asserting that the anti-terrorism ordinance was very much needed, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Tuesday said the government was prepared to clear any misgivings that the opposition might have on the issue.

Speaking at the Bharatiya Janata Party Parliamentary Party meeting in New Delhi, he said political parties were opposing the Prevention of Terrorism Ordinance for political purposes.

He said the situation had changed since the September 11 attack in the United States, and therefore it was necessary to have laws to check terrorism.

Spokesman V K Malhotra briefed newsmen on the remarks made by Vajpayee at the meeting.

The prime minister said the international community had also realised the need to jointly tackle the menace of terrorism and India had joined hands with other countries to fight it, Malhotra said.
