Nepal's princess feared killed in chopper crash

At least one member of the Nepal royal family was among five people feared killed when the helicopter carrying them on Monday crashed into Rara lake in Mugu district, about 500 km west of Kathmandu, airport security sources said.

Princess Preskhsya Rajya Lakshmi Devi Shah, wife of Dhirendra, the deposed prince who was killed in the royal palace massacre on June 1, was among the five people believed to have died in the crash, the sources said.

The princess was also the younger sister of Queen Komal Rajya Laxmi Devi Shah.

The helicopter, which belonged to private airlines Fishtail Airways, had taken off from Nepalgunj airport at 0815 hrs (local time) for Mugu, a major tourist spot.

The French-built Ecureuis helicopter had on board six persons including the pilot Ravindra Kadariya, Fishtail sources said, adding one person was believed to have jumped from the chopper and survived.
