3 cops, 7 militants killed in J&K encounter

Ten persons, including three policemen, were killed on Tuesday in a fierce gunbattle at Sukhnoi in the upper reaches of Wadwan area in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Inspector General R V Raju (Jammu range) told rediff.com that 200 policemen were rushed to Sukhnoi village on Monday for conducting search operations in the nearby forest area.

On Tuesday, they came across some militants who, upon being challenged, threw hand grenades at the policemen and opened heavy fire resulting in the on-the-spot death of three policemen, he informed.

In the exchange of fire, which lasted several hours, seven militants were killed, Raju said.

The search operations were resumed after the encounter, Raju added.
