3 PWG arm dumps unearthed

Syed Amin Jafri in Hyderabad

The Andhra Pradesh police unearthed arm dumps of the outlawed People's War Group and arrested three Naxalites, in three operations in Adilabad, Nizamabad and Mahbubnagar districts.

State police spokesman Shujath Ali said that one of the dumps belonged to the People's Guerrilla Army, formed recently by the PWG.

The police spokesman claimed that all recoveries indicated preparations of the PWG to ''create more violence by militarising its cadres''. In this game-plan, the PWG has been luring innocent and gullible youth into the path of violence and ruining the lives of many young boys and girls and their families, he added.

A special police party went to the area on a tip-off about a PGA arms dump in Mangi forest area of Adilabad district. On May 7, the police party came across a cave, covered with boulders, in a forest near Tokuguda village in Tiryani mandal. On removing the boulders, the police found nine trunks in the PGA ammunition dump.

The boxes contained a .32 Smith & Wesson revolver, 600 rounds of ammunition, including 374 rounds of SLR and 63 rounds of AK-47, seven communication sets, grenades, LMG and AK-47 magazines, a telescopic rifle, 60 detonators, wire bundles, a huge quantity of party literature, documents, audio/video cassettes, and other items.

The Nizamabad district police unearthed a PWG dump on May 7 near Kamareddy town. The police recovered an SLR magazine, besides PWG uniforms, 32 kit bags and PWG literature.

In the third incident, the Mabbubnagar district police recovered a .303 rifle, a carbine, 142 rounds of 0.303 and carbine ammunition, grenades and party literature on May 7 and arrested three top PWG cadres of neighbouring Karnataka.
