Grenade-throwers' gang
busted in J&K: PTI

The Border Security Force Friday said it had busted a gang of grenade-throwers, with the arrest of 17 militants of the pro-Pakistan Harkat-ul-Mujahideen and Al-Umer-Mujahideen outfits in Srinagar, a senior BSF official said.

Those arrested include a 15-year-old boy, who had been allegedly involved in 31 grenade attacks in Srinagar which killed nine persons and left 154 injured over two months, Deputy Inspector General of BSF B N Kabu told reporters in Srinagar.

Kabu said youth, aged 15-22, were lured by mercenaries and paid Rs 150 for each grenade attack.

He said with their arrest, the network of Harkat and Al-Umer outfits had been 'virtually wiped out' in the city.

Ten kg RDX, two AK-56 rifles, five Chinese pistols, three wireless sets, 13 Chinese hand grenades and a rocket with a booster were among ammunition recovered from them, he added.

The Jammu and Kashmir police had Thursday claimed that they had busted a gang of grenade throwers with the arrest of five militants in the affiliated Al-Bader outfit.

They were arrested from Sopore town in North Kashmir in a joint operation by police and the Border Security Force, they said.
