A Malaysian high court has adjourned to March 8 the hearing on Italian businessman Ottavio Quattrochi's petition against a move to extradite him to India.
Quattrochi's extradition has been sought by India's Central Bureau of Investigation in connection with the Rs 640-million Bofors pay-off case.
The court heard the arguments of both the sides for more than three hours on Friday before posting the matter for March 8.
Lawyers representing Quattrochi argued that their client was a victim of a political conspiracy, a contention denied vehemently by the lawyers for CBI.
Quattrochi left India in the early nineties at the height of Bofors controversy and has since moved from one country to the other evading arrest.
The other key accused in the case -- former defence secretary S K Bhatnagar, Dubai-based businessman Win Chadha and three Hinduja brothers (Srichand, Prakashchand and Gopichand) -- are currently facing trial in a special court of CBI in Delhi.
Win Chadha has been in India for more than a year now and has been denied permission by the Supreme Court to travel abroad for treatment of a heart ailment.
The Hinduja brothers too have been denied permission to leave the country.
