PWG abducts six 'moles' and kills three
in Andhra Pradesh

Syed Amin Jafri in Hyderabad

Cadres of the outlawed People's War Group on Wednesday abducted six more former colleagues on suspicion that they were acting as informers for the police and shot dead three of them in Nizamabad district.

The victims were identified as Muthyalu Gangaram alias Vijay, a former local guerilla squad commander, Morre Devula (brother of Machareddy local guerilla squad commander Swaroopakka) and Swamy.

The fresh kidnap incident comes close on the heels of the abduction of 16 'renegades' by the PWG from Karimnagar and Nizamabad districts last week. Of them, a dozen were shot dead while the rest were set free on June 15 and 16.

According to state police sources in Hyderabad, the bodies of the three former Naxalites were found in the deep forest adjoining Atmapur and Kanapur villages in Nizamabad district, about 110 kms north of Hyderabad, on Thursday morning. The fate of the remaining three abducted persons was not immediately known.

The police sources said the six former extremists were picked up for 'interrogation' by PWG cadres from three villages on June 20.

The abducted persons, who were paraded before local stringers in a dense forest bordering Nizamabad and Karimnagar districts on Wednesday, 'confessed' to working as informers for money and owing to police pressure. They also 'confessed' that they were planning covert operations to kill top Naxalites.

PWG's Nizamabad district committee secretary Azad reportedly led the operation against the 'police coverts'.
