Nepal Communist Party-United Marxist and Leninist (NCP-UML) leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, in a statement, refused to have anything to do with the committee expressing reservations over the manner in which it was constituted.
The setting up of the three-member committee was announced on Monday by King Gyanendra. It is to be headed by Chief Justice Keshav Prasad Upadhyay and has been asked to complete its report within three days.
The king assured the nation that its findings would be made public.
"Our party has reservations about the manner in which the committee was set up and humbly conveys its inability to participate," the NCP-UML said.
Party sources said the NCP-UML felt that the proposal for the probe body should have been made by the prime minister rather than by the king. This would have been in keeping with the tradition of parliamentary democracy enforced in Nepal since 1990, they added.
