Nepalese king orders probe into royal massacre

Bowing to mounting public demand, Nepal's King Gyanendra on Monday ordered a judicial inquiry into Friday's massacre that wiped out almost the entire royal family.

"We have constituted a three-member commission of inquiry headed by Chief Justice Keshav Prasad Upadhya to investigate the circumstances leading to the tragic incident," the king said in a statement broadcast on state radio.

The commission would submit its report within three days.

Other members of the commission are Parliament Speaker Tara Nath Rana Bhat and the leader of the opposition Madhav Kumar.
