Riot police deployed in Kathmandu

Army and riot police were deployed Monday in the streets of Kathmandu amidst reports of angry demonstrations against the new king, Gyanendra, and Prime Minister G P Koirala soon after the announcement of the death of King Dipendra in hospital.

At some places, police had to resort to a lathi-charge to disperse demonstrators, who raised slogans against King Gyanendra and Koirala. Police have made some arrests.
