Nepalese army chief in India
to purchase arms

Chief of General Staff of the Royal Nepal Army Gen Pyar Jang Thapa, on a week-long visit to the country, on Monday held wide-ranging talks with top army and defence brass.

Gen Thapa called on army chief General S Padmanabhan, his deputy Lt Gen Vijay Oberoi, the director general of military operations and the director general of military intelligence, official sources said.

He also met Defence Secretary Yogendra Narian and visited the National Defence College.

During the course of his stay, Gen Thapa would be visiting the ordinance factories in Kanpur, Ishapore near Calcutta and Kirkee near Pune to purchase small and medium arms, they said.
