Govt must probe Musharraf-Hurriyat meet: Panun

Onkar Singh in New Delhi

The Union government should order a probe into the closed-door meeting between the leaders of the Hurriyat Conference and Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf in New Delhi on July 14, Panun Kashmir chairman Dr Agnishekhar demanded on Wednesday.

"The Panun Kashmir demands that the Government of India should immediately order a probe into the meeting of the anti-national elements with Musharraf on the Indian soil. This is a slap on the face of every self-respecting Indian," Dr Shekhar said.

"The prime minister should also address the media immediately. The nation has a right to know what transpired at the meeting," he said.

Another leader, Ashwini Churngoo, demanded that the confidence building measures like giving visas to Pakistanis on reaching the Indian border should be immediately withdrawn.

He said that the tough attitude adopted by the prime minister had vindicated the stand taken by the Panun Kashmir that Kashmiri Pandits were as much a party to the Kashmir problem as anyone else.

"Why is so much importance being given to the Hurriyat Conference, who are a cover for the anti-national elements. We, the Kashmiri Pandits, have as much at stake as anyone else. We have been reduced to the status of refugees in our own country," Churngoo said.

When asked what transpired at his meeting with President Musharraf at the lunch given by Prime Minister Vajpayee, Dr Shekhar said, "I told him that Pakistan should pay us compensation for reducing us to the state of refugees in our own country. He was totally stunned. I said this in the presence of Prime Minister Vajpayee, Home Minister Advani and External Affairs and Defence Minister Jaswant Singh.

"I told him that the Kashmir problem was the creation of Pakistan and how terrorists had committed genocide on the Kashmiri Pandits," he added.
