Black flags to greet Musharraf in Jaipur

Pleasant weather awaits Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf and his entourage when they arrive at the Sanganer airport here en route to Ajmer.

Security arrangements have been tightened both in Jaipur and Ajmer for the impending VVIP visit. Musharraf will arrive in Jaipur direct from Agra, after concluding his talks with Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Rajasthan Governor Mr Anshuman Singh, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Mayor of Jaipur Mrs Nirmala Verma will receive the Pakistan President and his begum at the airport.

As per schedule, Musharraf will land at 3,15 pm, spend ten minutes at the VVIP lounge in the airport, and the proceed by helicopter to Ajmer where he will pray at the shrine of the famed Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti.

He will reach Ghoogra helipad in Ajmer at 4.05 pm, and drive to the Dargah.

Security personnel have fanned out in an around Sanganer airport. Traffic will be restricted in the area during the period of Musharraf's visit.

Meanwhile in Jaipur, several social, trade and voluntary bodies have decided on a token bandh in protest against Musharraf's visit.

Black flags have been put up in the marketplace, and shopkeepers have burnt effigies of the Pakistan president who, they say, was responsible for the Kargil battle in which 72 youths from the region lost their lives.

Musharraf, meanwhile, is due to fly back to Islamabad from Jaipur, at the conclusion of his Ajmer pilgrimage. However, a suite is being reserved for him at the Raj Bhavan, in case raiins prevent him from taking the flight on schedule.
