India, Pak were never so close to
permanent peace: Musharraf

"It is entirely up to me and Vajpayee to be accommodative of each other, be open-minded on the core issues, and I certainly want him to see reality," he said in an interview to weekly India Today to be published in its latest issue.

"We haven't fought wars for any other issue or dispute than Kashmir," he pointed out.

"We have never got so close to permanent peace. This is the historic moment for real peace to come," he added.

Describing the Indo-Pak summit as 'extremely important', he said, "We must meet with an open mind, remove the main irritant and also other possible issues, which Vajpayee seems keen on discussing. I will open-mindedly discuss anything with him. That must not be at the cost of ignoring the main issue of Kashmir."

Asked about the danger if the talks failed, Musharraf said, "It would be a sad day for both the countries. It has created such hype that the entire world is watching us. We must not fail. We will fail only if we are not being realistic."
