Lone to attend 'High Tea'

Mukhtar Ahmed in Srinagar

Senior Hurriyat leader Abdul Gani Lone on Friday said that he will attend the tea party being hosted by the Pakistan High Commissioner on Saturday.

Talking to rediff.com, Lone said that he is leaving for New Delhi on Friday afternoon.

He alleged that authorities had put him under house arrest.

Lone, however, said that Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front leaders have decided to boycott the party in New Delhi.

Other Hurriyat leaders, including Prof Abdul Gani Bhat, are already in New Delhi. They will meet the Pakistan president on Saturday.

Meanwhile, life in the entire Kashmir valley was crippled on Friday due to the general strike called by the All Party Hurriyat Conference to protest against India's decision not to include them in the discussions on Kashmir with Musharraf. The call for the strike also coincides with the 'Martyrs Day', which is a government holiday.

All shops and business establishments were closed.

Authorities have made tight security arrangements in Srinagar. Police and paramilitary soldiers were patrolling the streets.
