Geelani says he will go to Pak if given passport

Jamaat-e-Islamia leader and a former chairman of Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Thursday said would definitely visit Pakistan along with other Hurriyat leaders if the Centre issued travel documents to them.

In a statement, Geelani said: "The ball is in the government's court. Whenever the travel documents are released, I would travel to Pakistan."

He denied he had told officials at the Pakistan high commission that ill health would not allow him to travel to Islamabad.

Geelani, who is one of the five members nominated by Hurriyat Conference to visit Pakistan to hold talks with militant leaders, is presently undergoing medical treatment in the capital.

Other members of team are: People's Conference chairman Abdul Gani Lone, former Hurriyat chairman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, Shia leader Maulana Abbas Ansari and People's League president Sheikh Abdul Aziz.

Barring Farooq and Lone, none of the other members of the team have yet got their travel documents.
