CBI to despatch official
for Quattrocchi's case: PTI

"One of our officers will be there (in Kuala Lumpur) to assist counsel (Cyrus Das) when the case comes up for hearing on January 22," CBI Director R K Raghavan told reporters in New Delhi.

Quattrocchi was arrested by the Malaysian authorities on December 20 but was later released on bail on "stringent conditions".

Quattrochhi, who represented the Italian firm Snam Progetti in India for several years and was close to the Gandhi family, had left India in 1993 before the CBI could secure an arrest warrant against him from the court.

The CBI had chargesheeted Quattrochhi on October 22 last year, accusing him of receiving money for clinching a deal for the Swedish firm A B Bofors in 1986 for the supply of 400 155mm howitzer field guns to India, despite the government making it clear that there would be no middleman involved in the deal.

On the Hinduja brothers coming to India, Raghavan said, "The hearing has been fixed for January 19, let us hope so (they will be coming)."

Stating that the second chargesheet had been filed in the case, he said, "There has been a concerted effort and the results are appreciative."
