It's not cease-fire in J&K, clarifies Advani

The government told the Lok Sabha on Tuesday that there was no 'cease-fire' in Jammu & Kashmir, only 'stoppage of combat operations' against terrorists.

"[The] prime minister has never said that it was cease-fire, but the government has only instructed the defence forces not to open fire but respond to militant attacks. Since this move came into effect, in the last three months 184 terrorists have been killed by security forces," Home Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani said in reply to a spate of supplementaries during question hour.

Advani said that in the wake of this action by the government, Pakistan, which has been aiding and abetting terrorism in the state, has been isolated internationally. International pressure is now building up on Islamabad to stop this action, he said.

"The peace initiatives by the government have isolated terrorists and our neighbour is under pincer pressure to stop aiding and abetting terrorists," he remarked.
