Manipur Dy Speaker resigns: PTI

The Federal Party of Manipur, a constituent of the state's ruling coalition, split on Monday, with its leader and Deputy Speaker of the Manipur Assembly, K Raina resigning and forming a party along with former minister W Thoiba Singh.

Raina told newspersons in Imphal that Thoiba Singh was elected leader to the Democratic Federal Party of Manipur and asked Speaker S Dhananjay Singh to recognise it as a separate entity in the state assembly.

He said the DFPM would support the people's front coalition ministry headed by Radhabinod Koijam.

Raina said he and Thoiba Singh broke away from the FPM, which has four members in the house, in protest against "lack of transparency" of the top party leaders. He said he had submitted his resignation to the speaker.

FPM President and Manipur Forest Minister Gangmumei Kamei was not available for comments.
