Investigations into attempt on
Hurriyat chief's life begin

Investigations into Thursday's attempt on the life of Hurriyat Conference chairman Abdul Gani Butt in Baramulla have begun, a police spokesman said on Friday.

"Unidentified militants" had planted a live grenade in Hurriyat chief's vehicle and "police has registered a case and started investigations," the spokesman said in a statement.

Butt, along with some of his party colleagues, was returning from Tarzoo when a grenade was found tied near the petrol tank of his vehicle. The grenade was subsequently neutralised by his security staff.
