Tamil Nadu Liberation Army chief and forest brigand Veerappan's close associate Maran, who was arrested by the Special task Force on Thursday, has been remanded to 15 days judicial custody, police said on Friday.

The STF was set up to nab sandalwood smuggler and poacher Veerappan and his associates.

Maran, the master brain behind the abduction of Kannada thespian Dr Rajakumar, was arrested from Velliangiri forests on the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border and brought to Coimbatore later.

He was produced before the 5th judicial magistrate at the latter's residence past midnight and remanded to 15 days judicial custody, police said.
