Sea India

Even as Bombay harbour fills up with
ships of all shapes and hues, from oceans and seas near and far for the International Fleet Review 2001, an exhibition titled Sea India: Maritime Heritage is taking place in the shadow of the Gateway of India.

The display at the Old Admiralty House -- on till February 20 -- brings India's rich maritime history and traditions to life. Some snapshots and excerpts from the display...

'As early as 4,000 years ago, trade and maritime activity flourished in the Indian Ocean and along with it grew a naval power and even more important, a culture that is so deeply ingrained that we rarely pause to think about it.'
