Lone JD (S) legislator joins
new alliance in Manipur

The lone Janata Dal (secular) legislator in Manipur Assembly, Dr Loken Singh, deserted the opposition camp on Wednesday and joined the United Democratic Alliance led by Radhabinod Koijam of the Samata Party raising UDA's strength to 40 in the 59-member assembly.

Koijam had Tuesday night staked claim before Governor Ved Marwah to form the government.

Union Minister of State for Food Processing Chaoba Singh left Imphal Wednesday afternoon for New Delhi to apprise Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Union Home Minister Lal Krishna Advani of the latest political developments in the northeastern state.

Meanwhile, Sambhu Srivastava, general secretary (in charge of North East) for Samata Party, who is camping in Imphal to oversee the installation of a new government led by his party, has urged the Bharatiya Janata Party legislators to join the new government.
