High alert in Delhi; terrorists plan more attacks

A state of alert has been sounded in Delhi following intercepts suggesting that three groups -- belonging to the Lashkar-e-Tayiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed and the Al-Umar Mujahideen -- had sneaked in to create more blasts, even as two of their suspected associates were picked up.

Sources said the groups had been tasked to cause suicide attacks on VIPs and at important installations.

The Kashmir House and the housing engineering wing of the Army were on top of their list, they said.

The batches, containing around 14 persons each, comprised of Afghan nationals and Kashmiri youth.

The sources said two people, suspected of having contacts with the terrorist outfits, were picked up and interrogated by intelligence agencies. A message was also sent to the Jammu and Kashmir police for verifying their antecedents.

Meanwhile, following a directive from the home ministry, security at all 76 government installations would be handed over to the Central Industrial Security Force, as a follow up to the attack on Parliament.

Sources said the decision was taken to ensure a common command for guarding the government buildings. Earlier, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police, CISF, Rajasthan Armed Constabulary and the Secretariat Security Staff were guarding the buildings.

It has also been decided to merge the SSF with CISF early next year.
