Security scare at Rashtrapati Bhavan; one detained

Barely a week after the daring terrorist attack on Parliament, security personnel on Saturday foiled an attempt by an unidentified person to breach the security at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Alert security guards at the Presidential House detained a middle-aged man identified as Shiv Kumar who was moving in 'suspicious manner' near Gate No 29 on the Wellington Crescent Road side, police sources said.

The intruder claimed he was a resident of Greater Kailash in South Delhi, but could not provide any proof about this or what he was doing there in the wee hours of the morning, the sources said.

He was not carrying any arms neither any documents were recovered from him, they said.

The sources said he might be mentally disturbed as he had given contradictory versions during questioning.

"He kept changing versions during interrogation. We are trying to ascertain the facts," they said.

Security personnel have been on high alert throughout the capital in the aftermath of the December 13 terrorist strike on Parliament.

However, another agency report claimed that the man was a doctor from Jammu and Kashmir, and was actually found unconscious by the security personnel manning the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

But, the report could not be independently confirmed.
