Special court for Parliament
attack trial

Onkar Singh in New Delhi

The four accused arrested in Delhi under the Prevention of Terrorism Ordinance for their alleged role in the attack on Parliament on December 13 would be tried by a special court.

The Delhi police had arrested four suspects -- Mohammad Afzal, Syed Abdul Rehman Geelani, Shaukat Hussain alias Shaukat Guroo and his wife Afsan Guroo -- just days after the terrorist attack left 14 dead, including five terrorists.

Talking to rediff.com on Saturday morning, Minister of State for Home I D Swami said POTO provides for a trial by a special court.

Union Minister of Law and Justice Arun Jaitely said the Delhi government would constitute the special court in consultation with the Delhi high court.

The Jammu and Kashmir government will also set up a special court to try those arrested under POTO.

Minister for State for External Affairs Omar Abdullah said since the J&K government has promulgated POTO, whatever steps need to be taken would be taken.
