Bomb disposal squad of the National Security Guards just past midnight removed and defused explosives contained in the car used by terrorists to enter Parliament on Thursday.

"The white Ambassador car with red beacon light and fake home ministry sticker has been removed from the Parliament complex," Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Mukesh Meena said.

He said the Parliament complex has been sanitised and made safe for resumption of business on Friday.

Security forces and bomb disposal squads of NSG struggled for hours to remove and defuse the huge quantity of explosives.

Explosives carried by the five terrorists in their bags were also defused successfully.

At least two grenades were also defused by controlled detonation.

Lok Sabha sources said the car laden with explosives was removed by the Delhi police from the Parliament complex at 0038 hours.

Joint Secretary, Security, Lok Sabha, Mahipati monitored the operation through the night.
