Afghan intelligence chief points finger at Taliban

Intelligence chief of the Afghan government on Thursday said it was quite possible that the terrorist attack on Parliament House was the handiwork of Pakistan's Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) and the ousted Taliban militia.

"It may be possible that ISI, in league with the Taliban, who fled from Afghanistan masterminded the attack," General Ishamuddin said in Kabul.

Emerging from the meeting of Northern Alliance commanders with Hamid Karzai, who is to head the interim Afghan government, he said the Taliban and ISI were dead against India as it supported the new dispensation in Afghanistan.

"Because India has good relations with Afghan government, it is quite possible that these two forces wanted to inflict injury on New Delhi," he said.

In another development, Tajikistan's Defence Minister General Sherali Khairullayev postponed his proposed visit to India, due to begin on Thursday, until next week.

Tajikistan's defence ministry made this announcement shortly after the attack on Parliament House.

Khairullayev was scheduled to discuss with Indian leaders the developments in neighbouring Afghanistan and issues pertaining to Central Asia.
