Nepal has received two helicopter gunships and weapons from India to help its forces combat the Maoist insurgency raging in the western half of the country, agency reports said.
The two five-seater Cheetah helicopters arrived in Kathmandu on Thursday, sources in the Indian embassy said.
The Cheetahs are built for the Indian army by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited under licence from a French company. They are fitted with machine-guns and can be used to ferry troops.
The Royal Nepal Army has been facing trouble reaching some of the hideouts of the Maoist rebels in remote areas of the western part of the Himalayan kingdom, with the extremists planting landmines and ambushing troops.
