POTO not against any particular community: Abdullah

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah on Sunday said Prevention of Terrorism Ordinance was not aimed against any particular community, but meant to fight terrorism and enemies of the country.

Addressing the convocation of National Board of Examination in Srinagar, Abdullah said instead of indulging in vote bank politics over POTO, political parties should understand the necessity of having a legislation to fight terrorism.

During the recent chief ministers' meet at New Delhi, Abdullah said he had asked all the chief ministers 'to show to the world how much united we are in fighting terrorism'.

He said he had told everyone at the meeting that POTO was 'not against any individual or religion and there are several safety provisions in it'.

"But the tragedy with us is that we do not realise how to save India... if there is no India, there will be no Farooq Abdullah or Dr C P Thakur," he told eminent doctors at the convocation.

Abdullah was conferred the honorary degree of Diplomate Of National Board of Examination at the convocation.
