The Central Bureau of Investigation has decided to take up the matter of the evidence gathered about the IC 814 hijackers from a house in Kabul with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Talking to rediff.com CBI Joint Director R N Savani, who headed the investigations into the hijacking of Indian Airlines Flight IC 814 to Kandahar, said "We have read news reports on this issue and will ask the Indian embassy in Washington to approach the FBI and seek details of the evidence they have gathered."
He conceded that that, if the reports are authenticated, the evidence unearthed by FBI would be crucial to the hijacking case.
The news reports confirm the CBI's suspicion that some of the hijackers had spent some time in Afghanistan immediately after the release of Maulana Masood Azhar, Sheikh Ahmed Zargar and Ahmed Sheikh before crossing over to Pakistan.
The Intelligence Bureau is investigating the precise role of Saudi extremist Osama bin Laden's terrorist network Al Qaeda might have played in the hijacking of IC 814.
