Jemima Khan to the rescue of the pound

Our Correspondent in London

Jemima Khan has launched herself into a political life of sorts to defend the British pound against the euro.

But like her husband Imran Khan, this is more in the style of partying politics. She made her first move to defend the pound at a chic party in central London, according to a report in The Times.

Her father, Sir James Goldsmith, had started the Save the Pound campaign. Jemima's father has spent about 20 million pounds to save the British currency.

Twenty-seven-year-old Jemima Khan hosted a dinner at 50 pounds a head for the Democracy Movement, which is a front against Europe. About 200 guests attended the dinner at the Cinamon Club where Indian food was served, according to The Times.

Guests included actor Edward Fox, spy writer and former MP Rupert Allason, and businessman Claus Von Bulow, the daily said.

"Jemima is an ardent supporter of the save-the-pound cause," her spokeswoman said.

"There will be further events of its kind when she is in the country," the spokeswoman said.
