Hizb has not closed door for talks: Salahuddin

E-Mail this report to a friend

The Pakistan-based chief of militant outfit Hizbul Mujahideen Monday disclosed that he had met an unofficial US envoy to seek Washington's support in resumption of talks with India for which it had not closed its door.

Syed Salahuddin said he had passed on a letter to US President Bill Clinton through a Pakistani American Ejaz Mansoor, who he claimed, was unofficially sent to Pakistan by US authorities last month.

Speaking separately at a function of the All Pakistan Newspapers Federation and at a meeting with diplomats from various countries including the US, China and Japan in Islamabad, Salahuddin said he had not closed doors for talks with India but insisted on tripartite talks involving Pakistan to settle the Kashmir issue.

He said Hizb negotiators had told the Indian side when they first met after the ceasefire that no dialogue could succeed without the Pakistan's participation.

He denied that his outfit declared the ceasefire at the behest of US and said the decision was taken by its central command.
