New TN police chief talks
of Rajakumar release plan

Dr R Rajagopalan, who took over as director general of police of Tamil Nadu, Tuesday said rescuing Kannada actor Dr Rajakumar, held hostage by forest brigand Veerappan will be his first priority.

After formally taking charge, Rajagopalan expressed confidence that the Kannada matinee idol would be rescued soon.

He said he would consult senior police colleagues involved in the rescue mission and seek guidance from the state government.

The state had one of the finest police forces and there was no reason why Dr Rajakumar could not be rescued soon, he added.

Strengthening the investigative mechanism would invite his utmost attention, he added.

He believed in simple living and high thinking and doing good to everyone.

His credo would be to make the Tamil Nadu police one of absolute devotion to duty and integrity, he added.
