HC admits Rao appeal in JMM case

The Delhi high court Tuesday admitted for hearing an appeal by former prime minister P V Narasimha Rao challenging his conviction in the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha bribery case and sentence for three years rigorous imprisonment on October 12 by a trial court.

Justice R S Sodhi, sitting in a single bench, issued a notice on the case and fixed November 7 for hearing the matter.

R K Anand, counsel for Rao, said Shailendra Mahato should not have been accepted as approver under Article 105 of the Constitution. He added that Mahato had given contradictory statements during the hearing in the trial court.
