Govt committed to Rajan
extradition: Deshmukh

The Maharashtra government is committed to the extradition or deportation of alleged gangster Chhota Rajan and has completed all formalities to get him to Bombay, Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh has said.

''We have completed all formalities and submitted them to the Centre,'' Deshmukh said during an interview to UNI on the eve of completion of one year in office. He said senior officers were constantly in touch with the home and external affairs ministries and rendering all co-operation.

He said that Rajan, in the Thai capital, was wanted in several cases by the Bombay police and no stone will be left unturned to bring him here. Bombay police chief M N Singh is in touch with New Delhi and joint commissioner of police (crime) D Shivanandan is camping there to provide assistance to the Centre.

Rajan was injured in a shootout at Bangkok on September 15 and is now under detention there for using a fake passport.

He was attacked, allegedly by gunmen of the Chhota Shakeel faction of Karachi-based gangster Dawood Ibrahim.
