Jaswant, PM discuss West Asia crisis

External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh Saturday called on Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee at Breach Candy Hospital in Bombay and discussed the situation in West Asia, according to sources in prime minister's office.

Jaswant Singh was closeted for about 45 minutes with the prime minister on the seventh-floor room of the hospital, where the latter is recuperating after a knee replacement surgery he underwent on Tuesday.

The sources described it as an "official meeting" and said that the discussion focussed on the West Asia crisis.

The meeting assumes significance in the wake of a request made by Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak and Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat requesting India to intervene to resolve the crisis.
