Putin returns home satisfied with India visit

Russian President Vladimir Putin returned home after a 'highly satisfactory' four-day state-visit to India, only to be received by thick fog and the news of stormy developments in Belgrade.

The Russian presidential plane, which touched down in Moscow on Thursday night at 2200 hours (IST), had to be diverted from the VVIP airport in the south western suburbs of Moscow to Sheremetyevo International Airport 40 km north west of the Russian capital.

Earlier, talking to the Kremlin media pool in Bombay before emplaning for Moscow he said, "We are highly satisfied with our talks and meetings with Indian leaders. We have achieved all the goals set by us before the visit."

"Some of the projects being launched with India are worth hundreds of millions of dollars, while our successfully developing military-technical co-operation will bring Russia several billion dollars," Putin told reporters.

During his stay in New Delhi, he inked along with Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the much-awaited Strategic Partnership Declaration to boost bilateral relations to a higher orbit.

Several key arms deals, including the T-90s tank contract and sale of SU-30 MKI license were also signed during his India visit.
