Three killed, IED neutralised in J&K

Three people, including a foreign mercenary, were killed in militancy-related incidents in Jammu and Kashmir even as security forces averted a major tragedy by the timely detection of an Improvised Explosive Device in the high security Tourist Reception Centre in Srinagar, official sources said on Wednesday.

The two-kg IED, tied with a grenade and planted in a tiffin box inside a bathroom in the TRC complex, was detected at around 1140 hours (IST), sources said, adding the bomb disposal squad neutralised it.

The detection of the explosive device inside the high security TRC building caused panic among the employees of the local All India Radio and Doordarshan Kendra (Srinagar) stations located nearby. These employees have been using the TRC's accommodation since the eruption of militancy, the sources said.

Meanwhile, two jawans injured in the IED blast in Anantnag district on Tuesday succumbed to injuries, the sources said, taking the toll to five.

Militants shot dead a shopkeeper inside his shop at Ikhrajpora in Jawahar Nagar locality of Srinagar on Wednesday afternoon, they said.

Ultras also shot dead a former militant of the Hizbul Mujahideen at Ganai Mohalla in Mattan area of Anantnag district on Wednesday. He was killed while returning home after offering morning prayers, the sources said.

Security forces shot dead a Pakistani militant, identified as Tanazul Rehman, in Baramulla district on Tuesday.
