Nedumaran 'pulls out' of mission: PTI

In a statement in Madras, Nedumaran appealed to Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to send S Balakrishnan, leader of the opposition, as an emissary to the jungles in his place.

Balakrishnan had demanded Nedumaran's arrest for his alleged anti-national and pro-Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam activities.

''By hurling false charges against me in the assembly, Balakrishnan has portrayed me as an anti-national force. Therefore, instead of me, I appeal to the chief minister to send my good friend and great patriot, Balakrishnan, to the forest and try to secure Rajakumar's release,'' he said.

After he read out the statement to the media, he declined to elaborate or state whether it meant that he was pulling out of the talks. ''I have said all that I wanted to.''

It was only a few hours earlier that he had said he was waiting for fellow emissaries, Prof B Kalyani and G Sukumaran, who were expected to reach the city in the evening from Pondicherry, so that they along with journalist R R Gopal could leave for the jungles on what would be the sixth mission to talk to the bandit.
