Despite SC verdict, emissaries will meet Veerappan

Shobha Warrier in Madras

Regardless of the Supreme Court order ruling out the release of the TADA detenues as demanded by the brigand Veerappan in exchange for the release of Kannada superstar Dr Rajakumar, a four-member team of emissaries would leave for the jungles on Tuesday on their sixth mission to secure the thespian's release.

Among the emissaries are Tamil Nationalist Movement leader P Nedumaran, editor of the Tamil fortnightly Nakkeeran, R R Gopal, and human rights activists Prof B Kalyani and G Sukumaran.

"Yes, we are going to forest for negotiations for the release of Dr Rajakumar," confirmed Nedumaran to rediff.com.

However, he became aware of the Supreme Court decision only when rediff.com brought it to his notice. Asked if he was hopeful about Rajakumar's release after the verdict, he said, "Yes, we all survive on hope, isn't it?" he added.

A cheerful Nedumaran said he has done all the preparations to go into the jungles for the next mission, which he feels will be the last and successful. The moment Prof Kalyani and P Sukumaran arrive in Madras, they will begin their mission "I am waiting for them to reach Madras."

On being told that the negative Supreme court verdict may not help his mission, "I cannot comment unless I read the judgment fully. Whatever it is, it is not going to affect our trip. We are hopeful that we will be successful."

"Every man lives on hope. And, hope is the driving force behind all our actions. Rajakumar, you, myself... all of us live on hope. So, I am hopeful that we will be successful this time."

"Hundred days is nothing in a man's life. Why do people worry about the number of days that he has been in the jungle? We hope we will be successful this time." a philosophical Nedumaran told rediff.com .
